When do nominations open and close?

Nominations for 2011 opened on 13 September 2011 and closed on 31 October 2011.

How do I make a nomination?

Please note: the Infratil Community Awards, Auckland Western Cluster Region are open to organisations of the former Waitakere City Council boundaries only. It is easy to nominate a voluntary group or not-for-profit organisation for the Infratil Community Awards. Simply fill out a Nomination Form and email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  or post to Peter Matvos, Auckland Council, Private Bag 92300, Auckland 1142. We will need some additional information about the nominated organisation, such as volunteer numbers and details of the activities carried out over the previous 12 months. Therefore, it is important you include a contact name and number on the Nomination Form so we can contact the group or organisation to access this information.

Where do I obtain a Nomination Form?

Nomination forms can be downloaded here or or picked up from the Local Board Auckland City Council offices or from the Information Desk of any of the following libraries: Glen Eden, Massey, New Lynn, Ranui, Waitakere Central Henderson, Te Atatu Peninsula, Titirangi.

Where do I send my completed Nomination Form?

Nomination Forms should be addressed to Peter Matvos, Auckland Council, Private Bag 92300, Auckland 1142.

Can I nominate my own voluntary group or organisation?

YES - voluntary groups and organisations can nominate themselves for the Awards. If you are nominating a group or organisation you are part of, please also fill out the Information Form.

What are the categories?

Nominations are divided into five categories.

Heritage and Environment
Health and Wellbeing
Arts and Culture
Sport and Leisure
Education and Child/Youth Development

When will the Awards be held and the winners be announced?

The Awards presentation was held on 7-9pm  Friday 2 December 2011 at 6 Henderon Valley Road.

Who will be invited to the Awards function?

All nominated organisations will be invited to send a represesntative to attend the Awards function, together with the nominator.

How are the Awards judged?

A panel made up of Auckland City Council, Infratil and community representatives judges the nominations. The key criteria considered by the judges are voluntary input; utilisation of resources; initiative and creativity; effectiveness of activities; and how the organisation's activities have impacted on the local area/district. The decision of the judges is final.

What do the Infratil Community Award winners receive?

Each Category Winner receives $500 and a framed certificate for their organisation or group, runners-up receive $250. The Supreme Winner receives $1,500 for their organisation or group, a certificate and trophy engraved with their group or organisation's name. The trophy is held for one year by the Supreme Winner and is then passed on to the recipient of the following Infratil Community Award.

What preparation is required for the National Awards held in conjunction with the TrustPower National Awards?

The Supreme Winner of the Infratil Community Award is required to prepare a 10 minute presentation about their group or organisation to be given at the TrustPower National Awards held on a weekend from 23-25 March 2012 in the Ashburton District. Further information about the TrustPower National Community Awards is provided to the Supreme Winner by TrustPower.

What dates does the Infratil Community Awards winner need to be available to attend the TrustPower National Awards?

The winner needs to be available for three days 23-25 March 2012 to attend the Awards, this may involve taking a day's annual leave from your place of work.

What does the winner of the Supreme National Community Awards receive?

The winner of the TrustPower Supreme National Community Award receives $2,500 for their group or organisation, a framed certificate and a trophy. The runner-up will receive $1,000 and a framed certificate.
