Z Energy is jointly 50/50 owned by Infratil and the Guardians of the New Zealand Superannuation. On 11 May 2011 Greenstone was renamed Z Energy.
Greenstone Energy was formed in April 2010 with the purchase the assets of Shell's NZ downstream fuel operations and interest in the NZ Refining Company. The business encompasses:
| a 17% stake in the New Zealand Refining Company |
| the pipeline which links the Marsden Point Oil Refinery to Auckland |
| port and other regional infrastructure |
| more than 220 service stations and nearly 100 truck stops |
| a marine re-fuelling business |
| operations at Christchurch and Auckland airports |
| a 25% share in Loyalty New Zealand (Fly Buys) |
| and the secure supply of Shell fuels. |
