TELECOM MAN SNAPPERED
2 February 2009
Infratil subsidiary Snapper Services has appointed Telecom's former head of emerging technology services Miki Szikszai as its chief executive, as it waits to find out whether it has been successful bidding for an integrated ticketing system for Auckland public transport that is expected to cost more than $100 million. Mr Szikszai, who takes up his post in Wellington today, says he has no inside information on the tender. "Like everyone else, we are in the dark." The Auckland Regional Transport Authority had expected to name a supplier for the ticketing system last year. It would let Aucklanders pay for bus, train and ferry travel using a single smartcard. Snapper chips will be embedded in season tickets to Super 14 matches at Westpac Stadium this year. "The single card will enable its holder to get into the ground, buy a half-time snack and pay for the bus ride home," Snapper says.
