Introduction

www.perthenergy.com.au
Perth Energy was established in 1999 as Western Australia's market began to deregulate, building a notable retail customer base spreading across the commercial and industrial segments.  Market reform since has taken customer contestability to the current small business demand level of 5.7kW (size of a deli), with the previous integrated utility Western Power being disaggregated in April 2006 into its current generation, retail and networks businesses.  A Wholesale Electricity Market was established in September that year.

In 2009, Perth Energy obtained its Gas Retail License, following successful ventures in supplying gas to industrial loads.

Perth Energy has since built a small retail base of commercial and industrial customers.  Now, supported by Infratil and the power station development, Perth Energy has substantial retail growth aspirations to cement its position as the third energy supplier in the SWIS; being just one of three electricity retailers licensed to supply smaller-use customers.

Supported by Infratil, the company developed a 120MW dual-fuel peaking power station in Kiwinana, Perth's industrial heartland, which was commissoned for commercial delivery in 2010. The power station is named Kwinana Swift for its use of Pratt & Whitney's fast response Swiftpac gas turbines.
